Since 1984, the Vertical Flight Society has organized an annual Student Design Competition, where undergraduate and graduate students alike are challenged to design a unique vertical flight vehicle. Georgia Tech has participated in the competition since its conception, placing first in over 20 competitions and consistently placing in the Top 3.
The event sponsors rotate annually. Past sponsors include Airbus, Bell, Boeing, Leonard Helicopters, Sikorsky, and the US Army Research Lab (ARL). More information on the event can be found on the VFS SDC website.
